Fiberglass Pools Verses Gunite Pools
Below are some of the simple differences between a fiberglass pool and a gunite pool:
Fiberglass Pools
- Are always less expensive than gunite pools.
- Are easier to clean than gunite.
- Have a smoother surface than gunite and reduce the possibility of blisters on bottoms of feet.
- Are limited in size, with 16’ x 40’ being the largest of a fiberglass pool… Of course, a tanning ledge and/or a spa can be added to any fiberglass pool, making it a “larger” pool.
- Are limited in shape dependent upon the shapes that each fiberglass pool manufacturing company offers.
- Tile… All fiberglass pools can have tile added to them, which is usually 6” from the top of the fiberglass down to below the top of the water level… However, the tile is added to a fiberglass pool which creates a “ledge” where the tile ends below the water level.
Gunite Pools
- Unlimited in size and shape. A gunite pool is a custom-built pool that can be built to accommodate any size and shape that the homeowner is interested in with unlimited possibilities.
- Tile is “built-into” the sides of the gunite pool making a seamless transition of the tile.
- A gunite pool will probably need to be resurfaced at some point.
These are some simple distinctions between the fiberglass and gunite pools that can help homeowner’s make an informed decision of which pool is important to them…
